Scientists Discover Tender Touch "Love Nerve" Hakann Olausson, of Sahlgrenska University Hospital, Gothenberg led the research. They have discovered a tender touch "Love Nerve" linked to romance and sexual arousal. The nerves, called C Tactile fibers, only react to slow stroking and stimulate the emotional part of the brain. Experts have wondered what the CT fibers are for because they are not needed for feeling objects and don't react to temperature or pain. Canadian and Swedish researchers tested their theory on a woman that lost all the main touch nerves in her body. They stimulated her CT nerves with a soft paintbrush while monitoring her brain's reaction. When they stroked her forearm and the back of her hand she felt a faint yet pleasurable non-tickling sensation. She did not feel anything when the brush was applied to her palm, which lacks CT fibers. Scans showed areas of the brain involved in emotions were activated by the stroking. The Scientists found the CT fibers are unlike other touch nerves because they react to tenderness rather than strong pressure or vibration. The results of this study are in the journal Nature Neuroscience.
